The Economics of Residential Passive House
Tuesday, September 20, 2022 (12:00 PM - 1:30 PM) (PDT)
Description
Central to achieving the Passive House Standard is design and construction principles that achieve high indoor health and comfort levels with minimum energy consumption through high-performance building enclosures, downsized heating/cooling systems, and balanced fresh air ventilation. This course will make the economic case for building Passive Houses. Experts from the Passive House Network will show how Passive House principles affect a project's economics, demonstrate ways to reduce project costs, and how Passive House improvements in durability and thermal comfort are also likely to contribute to financial value. While these investments to meet the Passive House Standard require incremental cost compared to code-built construction, this session will present case studies of successful Passive House projects that overcame this perceived cost barrier.
