On average windows makeup to 15-20% of the surface area of walls in new and existing homes. In California, windows can account for up to 45% of cooling loads. Selecting the right windows can substantially increase comfort and reduce energy costs. In fact, selecting the right window technology can double your walls' total R-value! Window technologies have changed considerably in recent years. These products can save up to 25% on heating costs and up to 40% on cooling costs but using the wrong window technology in the wrong climate can increase energy costs. Sorting out all the options and variables can be very confusing.
